I’ve still got about 45 minutes to kill until the office Christmas party starts, so I figured I’d take a minute to ramble on!

It may still be the honeymoon period, but I’d say that I’m still pretty content with my job change and my new life here in Tokyo. There are good and bad points, like any job, but the corporate atmosphere and work conditions are good. When days are hard, they really, truly are (I’ve had 3 projects all come down at one time, all of which need to be filed with the court in the next 20 minutes. And then the printer died). But there’s a reason you get paid at any job; if it was all fun, you’d be doing it for free. My immediate supervisor is a really nice guy and is always helpful and supportive, my coworkers are really friendly, and everyone in the firm is generally warm and open.

Plus, you get lots of cool perks, like free vending machines, monthly catered parties, and Christmas events at 5 star hotels.

Personal life is.. Well, as it usually is. Still working to build up some sort of notable social network here in Tokyo, which takes time. I spent last weekend with a friend of mine baking muffins (cranberry and white chocolate) and decorating my apartment for Christmas, and next weekend I’ll be meeting up with 5 of my ex-high school students–who are all in university now–to have a small Christmas party and decorate some Christmas cookies. That means I need to start baking a large amounts of Christmas cookies sometime next week. The week after that? My sister comes to the Tokyo, marking her first time abroad. That means I need to get a rental phone and train pass soon. Gonna be a pretty busy month!

In about 3 weeks, I’ll pass my probation period and be officially pulled into the company. I already have all benefits and my job functions are the same as everyone else, but it does mean that I’ll get my engraved name plaque and get business cards. Sure, I never actually deal with customers, but it’s awesome to have business cards with an international company’s name on it all the same. I’m superficial like that.

What else? Not much. I’ll be taking pictures tonight and will be uploading them tomorrow or so to show some of the fun. This weekend should be pretty low key (probably good), so I’ll just be doing some simple shopping for my Christmas decorating and catching up on my reading. The current book is a Japanese murder mystery about a high school teacher whose students are trying to murder him. Good fun!

Well, off to the party! Enjoy your weekend..!

I’m at the Imperial Hotel in downtown Tokyo now.
