{"id":1232,"date":"2013-01-15T07:41:32","date_gmt":"2013-01-14T22:41:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jrem.net\/life-in-japan\/?p=1232"},"modified":"2013-01-15T07:41:32","modified_gmt":"2013-01-14T22:41:32","slug":"a-little-late-for-a-white-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jrem.net\/?p=1232","title":{"rendered":"A little late for a White Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jrem.net\/life-in-japan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/20130115-071604.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.jrem.net\/life-in-japan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/20130115-071604.jpg\" alt=\"20130115-071604.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That, right there, is Tokyo station in the midst of the <strong>Blizzard of 2013<\/strong>, a mild dusting of snow in any of the colder capitals of the world (I&#8217;m looking at you, Seoul, DC, Moscow and others!), but works out to be a huge ordeal in Tokyo. 7-Eleven apparently didn&#8217;t get any shipments this morning, so no rice ball for me for lunch today.<\/p>\n<p>First world problems and all that. You&#8217;re probably living a pretty good life when the biggest worry of your day is that you can&#8217;t eat the same thing for lunch that you always do and have to <em>eat something different<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest problem, though, was that yesterday was <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coming_of_Age_Day\">Coming of Age Day<\/a><\/em>, where all the people who turned 20 in the last year go to a ceremony (where the ceremony is held depends on your local city government&#8230; Those who live in Urayasu city can go to Disneyland!) and celebrate now becoming an adult. You can imagine that this once-in-a-lifetime ceremony where many young women undergo a nearly 2 hour process of getting into a kimono being interrupted by snow was not entirely popular. But hey, makes for some good photos! And me?
