Have I ever mentioned that I’m not much of a party guy? Like, even remotely? I’m sure it’s probably pretty evident.. And in fact, I’m sure I’ve mentioned it hundreds if times. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the invite, it’s just that I don’t want to go. And there’s no way of saying that without sounding mildly insane.<\/p>\n
“Oh, you’re good people. I just don’t want to be around you guys. I get tired having to be the cheerful, life of the party all the time.”<\/p>\n
Or, more to the point: “I get paid to talk to people all day. Every day. I want time not doing that.”<\/p>\n
I swear, I’m a social butterfly.<\/p>\n
Tonight was another event. Two coworkers are leaving my company. Lots of partying, noisiness, and many people I don’t even know. But hey! Some dinner plans with a graduating high school student popped up in another city at the exact same time! Seriously, when I do something, I clearly do it 100%. Driving all the way to another city to skip out on a party? Top THAT! (I would claim someone died.. But my coworkers are all pretty aware that I’m apathetic enough that it’s not a real reason. I did claim that I died and couldn’t go once, but that didn’t work for reasons that I still can’t figure out.)<\/p>\n
Anyway, time to kill a little more time, read a book, and prepare for the day from hell tomorrow. Leave my house at 9 to buy a cake, teach from 1030-1200, lunch from 1230-1400, study translation methods from 1400-1700 with some friends, 1900-2300 have another going away party (I’ll actually attend!) and play a game with Belgian guy!<\/p>\n
